Last night I slept on an unused ski lift on a dark, rainy, and cold New Hampshire night. I wrapped myself up in my sleeping bag on the platform of the ski lift and fell asleep despite chills running through my body. I didn't get great sleep as a result of the drizzling rain that started coming down on my uncovered sleeping bag, but an hour is an hour when you are running in the New England Relay! That's right - the first ever New England Relay, a 223 mile, 12 person relay race going through Rhode Island, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and ending in Maine. Each person has three legs during the race which average around 6 miles each. We started the race at 9:30 on Saturday morning, and after running and handing off all day, all through the night and into the next day, we finished at 12:45 on Sunday each running on about an hour of sleep, and let me tell you it was a BLAST!
Though we had no intentions of competing seriously in the race featuring around 50 teams, we ended up WINNING the mixed (men and women) category! WOW
Of course, after I finished my last leg on Sunday morning I got out of the car and just fell to the ground in the parking lot, and passed out asleep. A cop car came by at some point and had to ask our team if I was with them or if he needed to do something with me... ha!
Thanks Mikey for organizing team Wicked Hardcore and being the all around coolest and most stylish runner out there! And for being a great friend to all of us.
