This was the text I got from my brother upon Mom's arrival home. Yes, I texted back proudly, I did win my age group (though I gotta say, the 20-25 year olds are not the most competitive in half-irons).
Mom came out to do a the Mountain Man Triathlon right here in Flagstaff. It was great - we went down to Sedona the day before, saw Bike and Build Maine to Santa Barbara 2011 (great crew), and then got up casually at 4 in the morning to make it to our race.

The 1.2 mile swim took place in Lake Mary - it felt great and I got into a good rhythm, finishing it in 33 minutes.
Next, the 55 mile bike leg also felt like a breeze for me, and I finished it quickly. Mom is quite speedy on the bike, too!
Finally, the 13.1 mile run... whew, it was a challenge. The temperatures started rising for the run, and at every water station I was dousing myself with water. I finished it in about 2 hours and 10 minutes... pretty slow for a half marathon, but not too shabby, I guess, after having done a 55 mile bike... There's always next time, too!
Thanks for coming out, Mom!
