Your Personal Mission Statement

7/1/2013

While on my yearly interventure, the thought of a personal mission statement came to me. Wouldn't it be great if on everyone's resume, they included a personal mission statement for their lives along with listing off the places they have worked? Of course the statement could be developed over time, but the aim would be for a life-mission.

My own personal statement came to me easily:
Mission Statement: My purpose in life is to create environmental stewardship through research and education in both biogeochemical processes and human health and productivity. I believe that once we find compassion for ourselves and optimize our health, we can do the same for our environment!
I have already gone ahead and added this statement to my LinkedIn profile despite the fact that I am seeking a new job - I feel that it is important for me to be very transparent about what gets me excited even if I am applying to jobs that don't completely relate to my mission statement. What do you think?

More importantly, what is your personal mission statement? Let us know in the comments, on the Facebook page, on LinkedIn, or whatever suits your fancy!

Hey dude, thanks for this article! I started to work with personal mission statement this year and I do have one mission statement with my boy friend ;-) I realized, that it really works, especially in times with trouble and doubts.
Here is mine: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1FOsATYBSXYc7sJw3P7e2N6XzQ7TaopocJdfcY5KfVqc/edit?usp=sharing Feel free to comment ;-)

Nadja - Can I just say WOW! That was fantastic - "Every single inch on the map is worth exploring. I want to explore every single inch of my freedom." These words ring extremely true to me. I think many people see a path they 'should' take, the one everyone is telling them to take (kindergarden - school - university - job - pension/'retirement'), and I am a big advocate of not doing that, of meandering like a river - here, there, wherever your mission statement takes you. You might not go straight to your end goal, but you will certainly learn a WHOLE LOT on the way! Just like you have!

Thanks so much for sharing your amazing story and showing us how a statement can profoundly influence your path, bringing you to places you never dreamed you would go!
