Bike Touring
"You move through landscapes and other people's lives much like a ghost, touching some things and being touched by others. And on a few occasions you just sit back and take it all in, maybe even learn something." -Joe Kurmmaskie, Metal Cowboy
Growing up, I knew I wanted to hike the AT when I finished college. It was my #1 goal, and I thought about it all the time.
Then, I bought a bike.
Well, more happened than just that. I also read Bill Bryson's account of hiking the famous trail in A Walk in the Woods. Don't get me wrong - it was not that Bryson's words convinced me NOT to hike the AT. They simply convinced me that the AT was a pursuit for me to complete during my mid-life crisis.
Until then, I decided, I should adventure and explore in a way that allowed me to continue to see more unique places and meet more people with ideas and life experiences far different than my own. In this way, I felt that I could continue to learn and grow. I figure during my mid-life crisis is a better time to undergo an adventure like the AT, which is more based in personal exploration and discovery.
Within the pages of this section, you will see writings and reflections on bike touring, as well as some how-to sections that describe techniques that I have found are most conducive to a good experience. (some of the pages are in the works, so stay patient!).
So read and ride on, friends!
